Problems with Mail

When I bring my iBook to my cabin, Mail no longer works on dial-up. I use cable at home. I am thinking its because of the outgoing server and the incoming server. But shouldn't it still work? I don't think that I have any firewalls on, and I am set to port 25. Please help. I can use webmail, but the lack of integretion into Tiger is really bugging me.

One thing you'll definitely have to change is the SMTP server (for outgoing mail). This has to be configured to whatever is required by your internet provider at the cabin. You should stil be able to get your incoming mail, though.

is there any way to prevent Mail from popping up to save a new message when you are writing one? it is a real hassle.

I did that and still a failed connection. It says that the server cannot be contacted on port 25.

I don't know why this would have worked for you at home, but it sounds as though you should be using a different port to contact the server. Different server types standardly use different ports. I know that my POP account uses port 110, and I've got another account (IMAP) that uses SSL encryption, and that's on port 993—unencrypted IMAP accounts typically use port 143.

Also, is it possible that your firewall is blocking port 25?

Is it possible that your ISP is blocking port 25? I would call them to find out.
