I just got a new iMac. I have the Adobe CS2 production suite and quarkexpress 6.5. If I am working in photoshop, illustrator will shut down. Or if I am working in illustrator, photoshop will shut down. Also, It seems to slow down after working with larger sized files.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

iMac Problems

I will have photoshop, illustrator, quark, entourage, firefox, font suitcase, adober reader, and adobe distiller open at the same time.
I have 2 GB of RAM.

More RAM might help. It's also cheap, so if you can afford a 2 GB module, I would highly recommend it. Also, make sure you are using an external drive (preferably a FireWire drive) as your Photoshop scratch disk, not the startup disk.

Next, make sure that your hard drive isn't nearly filled to capacity. This will negatively affect the performance of most systems.

And finally, step into the 21st century and dump Quark. :D

Did you go from a non-Intel based Mac to your new Intel based Mac?

CS2 will constantly do what you've mentioned until you upgrade to CS3 - made for Intel.

CS3 runs super smooth on Intel Macs.

Both Illustrator CS2 and Quark 6.5 can crash on Intel systems as well as running more slowly due to them having to run through an emulator.

Upgrade Quark to 6.52 off the website, which may make things more stable.

You could do with Quark 7 and CS3 in the long term though.
