Problems With New iMacs

IF YOU GOT A NEW iMAC CONGRATULATIONS!

I am looking forward to getting mine but I do not want to be one of the first people to order because the first ones always have problems.

Has anyone who has gotten the new iMac had any problems at all with them so far? Anything that makes you regret being one of the first people to buy?

Dude, if people were having problems with them, this part of the forum would be filled with complaining. And if there is a problem, it's more than likely going to be very limited. There are always problems somewhere, but they're usually far and few between. It's just an update, not a new product. Feel free to buy it now, already! You know you want to.
 
I'm debating on buying a new 3GHz iMac but I myself am very concerned with any issues like the issues that were apparent with the first 2.4GHz iMacs with them freezing up and what not. talk about annoying to no end.

I'd be super upset to see the same scenario with this new iMac.
 
you should be fine. you usally only see major problems when a product first comes out.

but with the imac its the same case so everything already has its spot and i don't see to many imac problems on the forums.
 
well with the 8800 and the 3.06, i hope apple equipped these new babies with some good fans, or else you can dress up to get ready to meet a freezer :D

Well I think that's part of the point of this specific update... less power consumption = less heat = less problems. I realize that the front page article stated that the 3.06ghz iMac consumes more power than the others, but I think it's still less than what the last generation would have consumed if it were at that speed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)
 
Christ, give folks enough of a chance to get them first :rolleyes: IE, wait a few days and read the reports.
I wouldn't expect any serious issues though. Its a pretty minor evolution of the alu iMac range after all. However, I certainly prefer Nvidia gfx hardware to ATI gfx hardware. Going on past experience, Nvidia makes the better product.
 
wow... didn't think anyone would have them yet. I suppose they must be in american apple stores?
I ordered within the first hour or two of the apple store coming online, but mine won't be with me until 13-14 :(
Ah well... that'l teach me for living in the UK :eek:

I didn't really expect any problems but at the same time I would prefer to wait 3-4 weeks and be certain then buy it and have a problem like the last update's freezer. :rolleyes:

I ask that those of you who have a new iMac (Specifically the top of the line one) please posts any problems or comments you have about it.

How does it seem from a manufacturing stand point. The technical stand point.

Thank You... I agree it can't hurt to wait but it can absolutely hurt to buy today.

People who have no impulse control and have to buy it on day 1 will try to get you to buy it to so that they don't feel as bad. :rolleyes:

Guys who did buy it... What do you think of it?

What do I think of it...
First of all... It looks same as previous version:D
But putting jokes aside I think it's one of those systems that just makes you feel satisfied in all areas. Of course it's all subjective opinion but nVidia's card finally gave the iMac something that in my opinion was lacking for a long time.
Right now your iMac became a pretty good gaming system.
I'm a designer working full hours on a 32GB Mac Pro so I am used to power. iMac is set at home and rendering times (vs the prev 24" I had) are faster about 20-25% and for the first time they stopped to annoy me lol.
Seriously you can see and feel the difference in all aspects.
I am very happy that I made my move as the 3.06 version is a big improvement.

Well, I am may be in the minority but I don't share this opinion in the least. I've always preferred ATI hardware to nVidia's and I've owned plenty of both. That said, I think both companies make some fine products.

I think it's important to keep in mind that ATI cards still exist in 75% of the new iMac line. ;)
 
Noob has memory upgrade question

Howdy,

I will be buying our second Mac tomorrow--the 3.06G iMac.
Having not put together a config since the G4 dual533 back in 2001, I found something puzzling.
With a 1066Mhz FSB, should I not be looking at 1066Mhz memory modules now or sometime? Like the Kingston/ASUS--or is that just for a certain CPU architecture?

I think the memory upgrade I choose (to 4G) will be here before the iMac. What's the deal? Should I wait for faster memory modules before I yank and replace the 2G?

I am wise with Pro Tools and stupid with memory--can't help it.

Fair enough. I wonder why my order will take 2 weeks to arrive from shipping then. I assumed it was because only america had them. How odd.
Unfortunately for me I live in Plymouth and don't have any apple stores even remotely near me.
However, I shouldn't complain, even if I had one next door I'd still use the apple store as I get almost £100 off from work.
