Yesterday I bought a new mac mini. A 2.3GHz i7. This is my first new mac in three years. I'm coming off of a 2008 macbook core 2 duo. I used the migration assistant to transfer my account from my macbook to the new mini. Amazed at however everything transferred over. It was as if my macbook just turned itself into a mini.

That said, I'm having all kinds of stability issues with my new mini. It feels slower than my old macbook, my apps are crashing on me and the machine is beach balling left and right. I expected more out of such a powerful new machine compared to my old macbook.

So what gives? Is it that I migrated my old account? I would really hate the start over with a fresh install. I have three years of use on this profile/account. From apps to fonts to bookmarks, playlists, etc.

I have never been fond of migration assistant, particularly with heavy duty apps like office and photoshop etc.

You could try a fresh install and see if the base OS X is still running rough.

You could also try setting up a new user account and log into that and see if it is stable. If it is then it is likely one of your migrated apps that is corrupt.

I have a 2012 mini and I used migration assistant to transfer everything from my 2009 mbp to the mini. I've had no problems with the mini. If it isn't still indexing... and if the problem persists... it's new and it's under warrantee. You can exchange it for another one.

Is there as way to see if it's still indexing? I've had it since Saturday night. It finished migrating at 2:30AM Sunday morning. It's been on the whole time since.

No it's not indexing anymore. But then today is a new day so maybe it finished overnight. I'll see how it performs today.

Had many of the same issues

I has many of the same issue with my Mac Mini. By the second day, I had problems that Apple Care was unable to fix via Telephone support. I had to erase and re-install the OS. That fixed it.
Some months later, I was getting a lag after each character was typed+ the spinning cursor
Apple Care spent over 40 minutes on the phone with me and was unable to fix it. He suggested erase and re-install....I have all my files on a TB external HD.
Anyway I did it and it worked no problems
I would suggest you get on the phone and call apple...you paid for the tel support when you bought it. I would bet $100 they will suggest the SAME
THING.

Hmm. It seems to be running fine today. I have it at work with me hooked up to my two 1080p monitors. I have dreamweaver and premiere pro open along with itunes, safari and adium. Yet it seems to be running smoothly. It's even scrubbing video smooth while playing music.

I don't know what the issue was yesterday. Maybe it was still indexing and I just didn't know. We'll see how it goes.

Maybe a reboot was needed
