I'm having some problems with some of my DVD-rips that I've compressed with Handbrake and the new appleTV 2.2 software. The majority have been ripped with the 5.1 ac3 track and the same track in aac mode as well and these play fine. ATV plays the 5.1 version when it is enabled in the settings menu.
The problem comes when I start ripping other tracks too.
For example, there are a couple of commentary tracks I rip too so the tracks I select in handbrake are:
main 5.1
main aac
commentary aac
They play fine in VLC and I can switch between all the tracks fine, but on the ATV, it plays an aac track by default. Using the new audio track selection in the 2.2 software it brings up a menu with the following options:
english (stereo)
english (stereo)
english
Both the first two options are ticked. Selecting the third one gives me ac3 5.1, but selecting either of the other 2 gives me the same aac track (which isn't the commentary track)
The second problem occurs when I use different languages (eg anime) I've done some test chapters with the following tracks:
english 5.1
english aac
japanese 5.1
japanese aac
Again when I play the files in vlc they are fine, but on the AppleTV I can see the following options:
english
english (stereo)
japanese
japanese (stereo)
both the stereo tracks play ok (with the correct languages), but selecting either 5.1 track results in no audio at all.
Having only 1 ac3 track seems to fix the problem - is this a limitation of the AppleTV? My anime collection is waiting to be ripped...
