Has anyone else had problems with the newest Microsoft Office update from Nov. 05?? First it was Powerpoint (no problem I can still use Keynote), then Word (I can use Pages, but I like Word), and now Excel. Does anyone know how to fix it? How to I uninstall and reinstall from the CD? Then can I update only the first update and not the recent update??? Help...thanks

Problems with the Newest MS Office Update

Nope, I haven't experienced any problems since the latest update (Powerpoint, Word, and Excel all seem to be working fine).
Regarding uninstalling the software, Bill Gates provided us with a program to do just that. Mine's in: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office
I'd uninstall, repair permissions, reinstall, and add those updates and try it out. But that's just the generic fix-it routine, anyone else having problems?

When I try to open Word, Powerpoint, or Excel, the icon just sits and bounces; and the Microsoft Error Reporter will come up (althought sometimes that freezes). It says it sends an error report to microsoft. You could try deleting preferences assuming you've already repaired permissions (with Disk Utility). There are two files in particular; com.microsoft.Word.plist and com.microsoft.PowerPoint.plist that may be removed from the Preferences folder safely whilst Office is closed. In addition to this is the Microsoft preferences folder which will be nearby. Inside this is a list of other preference files, in particular some Excel preferences. This is all based on Office X but I imagine it'd be similar for 2004.
Anyway, removing these files from the folder will result in their recreation upon the next launch of each relevant app. Can I recommend not touching the Microsoft folder though, unless the removal of the first two files works. If nothing is fixed then close the apps again and put these files back where you found them, replacing the newly created ones to get back all your settings.
I hope that made a little bit of sense.

I've just downloaded and started using open office from www.openoffice.org
It's so good! Has a similar feel to MS Office but works better, has improved work flow and is 100% compatible with MS formats. It also has integral PDF support. There are six apps within Open Office and best of all, it's FREE!
I currently have MS Office on my machines but not for much longer. Open Office gives me the option of having my machines completley MS free at no cost...

Thank you for the advice. Right now I've uninstalled and reinstalled the entire office set of programs. It is working but a little buggy because it's the orig. edition of office 2004. I still need to get the first update when I am near a high speed connection. But I have your advice saved should more problems come again.

I have been seriously thinking about Open Office, I've read so many good things on the net lately. I was a little confused which one to download though. But I see that I need 2.0. So I will for sure download it when I'm at a high speed connection. Thank you.
