Hey guys, sorry to start yet another post about problems viewing Windows Media Player content (I searched the forrums and couldn't really find much on asx files). I'm taking a spanish class and we're supposed to view these movies online that supplement the course material. The videos are formatted in .asx and my wmp9 will only play the audio. I tried to play through VLC to no avail. I shoudl also mention that I'm running the most current version of tiger. Can you get these stupid movies to play on your system? Is there a workaround I can use on mine? heres the link: (choose from any of the movies in the list)

(I should mention that they reqire you to register to view the content, but it's free and you can use a bogus e-mail address if you want)

I REALLY appreciate any help any of you can give me.

Ooh, Destinos nostalgia. Nothing says more about a culture than the videos they use to teach the language.

Oddly, in my case I didn't even get audio, just a broken plugin error even though I have the latest Mac WMP plugin installed and it usually works fine (on CNN.com, for example), so I can't even test.

That said, from the sound of it the video propbably uses the latest Windows Media codec (v10, I think), which the Mac player doesn't support. It's really not very common, but you run into these occasionally. If that's the case you're pretty much out of luck, as I know of no solution to getting them to play outside VPC or an actual Windows box.

Y'know what, I take back my previous suggestion. I realized that I'd forgotten to reinstall the WMP plugins after upgrading my work machine to Tiger, and that's why it wasn't working.

Turns out the Destinos videos work just fine for me (latest WMP, 10.4.2), so there's something wrong with your setup.

I'd start by deleting absolutely everything WMP related (the app, the plugins in the top-level /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder, and both preference files in your user-specific Library folder). Then reinstall it from MS's installer, and see if that helps. If not, I don't know what else to suggest other than your connection isn't fast enough.
