Now what is the current procedure just to activate a phone with my sim from my current ATT phone. Last week I put it back to 1.02 and used Independance.
Is this still the best way? I have to do it for my daughter now. It is the only way to use the iphone on my ATT corporate acct.

Assuming you have a Mac (which since you mentioned previously using iNdependence I'm assuming you do), open up the help browser in iNdependence and follow their instructions. The basic idea (starting with an unactivated 1.1.1 phone) is as follows:

1. iNdependence -> Put iPhone in DFU Mode
2. iTunes -> Downgrade to 1.0.2 using Option+click on Restore button trick
3. iNdependence -> Activate 1.0.2
4. iNdependence -> Jailbreak 1.0.2
5. iNdependence -> Install SSH/SFTP on 1.0.2
6. Connect iPhone to your WiFi network
7. iNdependence -> Run "Pre-1.1.1 upgrade" function, which takes advantage of the symlink exploit. Use PW=dottie since you're in 1.0.2
8. iTunes-> Upgrade iPhone to 1.1.1 again
9. iNdependence -> Using symlink, Activate & Jailbreak 1.1.1

Should take about 10-15 minutes total, and you're done! Slip in your AT&T SIM (if you haven't already), and everything except Visual Voicemail should work.

Another method involves the new Jailbreak method that was released recently. You can get an unactivated phone activated by using the AppSnapp method.

The convenience of this method is that everything is done through the web browser, and you don't need to connect your phone to your computer while you do this.
The method does take a bit longer if you're activating an unactivated phone.

This is the method I used last week on my iphone and it worked fine. The other method looks just as long and now that I am familiar with the above instructions, the second iphone should be faster. Thanks.
