How are 3D cartoons made? I know you create your characters and places first, and you use software like maya or 3ds Max to do so, but will they actually let you put it all together (sounds, motions,...etc.) and create a movie or something along those lines?? Thanks.

Um you're joking right - your name is MacAnimator.
If you don't know this much then maybe this isn't the right direction for you just yet - maybe do a course on atleast the basics as cad animation isn't the easiest thing in the first place.

And to answer the question - depends on the program thats being used, max does for example but its often easier to do in something like final cut/premiere/combustion.

I create animations but im lookin for personal preference in software. I wasnt sure what to use for my animations, kinda wanted to know what Pixar does for theirs.;)

You usually create and animate in your 3d program of choice, then you usually import it into several different apps for compositing, post-processing and audio. Although a lot of times you have to coordinate lip syncing in your 3d app.

Pixar uses a program they wrote, called "Marionette" for animation ( marionette is proprietary and not for sale). The animations are sent to their server farm and rendered with a program called Renderman ( renderman can be licensed for personal use).

I recommend you use Maya with this> https://renderman.pixar.com/products/tools/rfm_webinfopage.html if you have the money, time and patience.

I personally have used every piece of 3d animation software their is and can tell you Maya is your best choice for 3d animation on a Mac. If you want something much more simple and fun check out "Hash's Animation Master". Many a Pixar animator used it to put together a portfolio. Its easy and very fun to use.

Now i use Cheetah3D. its cheaper but it gets the job done without spending an arm and leg. I appreciate the help guys.
