Processor replacement

Both 3.2ghz processors melted down on my early 2008 Macpro. I´ve found the parts online with exactly the same specs, but am not sure of compatibility issues. All and any info would be of much help.

IIRC, it needs to be the SLANZ version (to make sure you have the right stepping).

Yeah, SLANZ version gives you C0 stepping which is supported by Mac Pro.

I was 99.9% certain SLANZ was the C0 stepped part, but I couldn't verify this on ark.intel.com (link that shows the steppings didn't actually state the steppings of either part; just information such as the CPU codes, whether it was in production or not, and if it was Halogen Free or not).

Rather disappointing to me, as that's critical information (and it was there in the past).

What a sad world, when Wiki offers more information than the manufacturer for something that can be that critical.
