Hi guys , bonjour mesdames

I will soon receive my PB, and I am currently shopping for software. Is there something akin to microsoft project on the mac?

I need to do some project management, resources allocation, as well as UML diagrams and case studies.

What do you guys use? I'm not against OSS/Java at all, as long as the product is finished :)

Thanks for your tips

As far as I know, there's no Microsoft Project 2000 for OS X. And that sucks, because if a colleague mails you a project plan, game over.

I'm a technical project manager, and I have a PC at work, and a Powerbook at home with MS Office. I can work effectively from home in almost every way, but if I need to see a project plan from home, I better hope that I generated a PDF from the plan and put it somewhere I can reach it, because if not, I'm completely in the dark.

That one app has made me consider virtual PC, but that's a very expensive route if you do it legally. (Price of VPC+MS Project = close to $1000).

You don't need to export the project file to view it. Try this link http://www.housatonic.com/projectviewer/. This is a web based MS Project Viewer. If you have enough screen real estate, it does quite well viewing large project documents.

The new version of Entourage in Office 2004 is supposed to have more project management type capabilities, but still no MS Project.

I have not found anything usefull on the free side for UML. I could use this as well. We use Rational Rose at work on our PCs, wish I could get that for OS X.

PMX

If you need basic project management program, try out PMX free download at www.versiontracker.com. It can export to html, ical, todo lists, this is a good program if you want to make use of your other Mac programs in your project.

Thanks a bundle!

I'll be evaluating the java apps this weekend, i'll post a mini review here for those interested.

I'll wait till I get my hands on my rev. c Powerbook till I try pmx ;)

Cheers,
