Looking for advice.

Going to pick up a new machine next week, perhaps just a MacBook this time but curious if there is reason to keep this iMac once I do.
Wont update past Sierra 10.12.6 so a couple of important apps no longer working but the screen still works perfectly and much of it still works fine.
Safari, so far is 95% ok.
Chrome wont allow cookies any longer, making web browsing a bit difficult so will uninstall Chrome.

I read something about an apple trade in, typed in specs and it said $300 could be put against another mac.
Doubting that when you are there it comes close to $300 mind you.

Seems a waste to throw this out if I have a newer machine but just not sure if I would use this one with a new purchase?!

Not sure what to do.
Any thoughts?

What do you mean "It won't update past 10.12"? I have the same machine, albeit with more RAM. I'm running 10.14.6 on mine now. I could put Catalina on it-- not sure that it's worth losing 32 bit compatibility at this point, though.

There haven't been any OSX updates since 10.12.6 other than small security ones in a long time. I looked a few weeks ago and again just now and there isn't nothing new showing up for me.

So where might I find a downloadable mojave?

Can I download and install Mojave directly from this page?

Apple - Support - Downloads

If so, which one, the 10.14.1 update?

I'm confused. If i want Mojave, I am unable to successfully install 10.4.6 without 10.14, is that correct?

10.14.6 is all that I see at the Apples Upgrade to macOS Mojave page.

At this page, i see 10.14.1. Here: 10.14.1

So coming from 10.12.6 which one exactly do I install next, 10.14.1 or 10.4.6?

The oldest combo update I see on that page is 10.14.2.
Does Jerwins post mean to suggest its pointless as i need 10.14 first?

The oldest I can see is not a combo but an update for 10.14.1. I dont want to risk going ahead until i have an answer.

It's a little hard to answer these things, as what you are offered can depend on what you have.

But apple's upgrade to mojave page contains this link.
Download macOS Mojave
Visit the macOS Mojave page on the App Store, then click the Get button. After downloading, the installer opens automatically.
Get macOS Mojave from the App Store

Willing to install another 8 gig ram if I can get this iMac back to proper working condition.

Ok, thanks Jerwin. Not sure what to do. Afraid of getting stuck half way though if it isn't the versioin I need.
But when I click on Updates from my mac itself, I havent been offered any OS updates for some time.

Apparently I have some incompatible updates, although I am not sure why.

Maybe I need to take it back to scratch and try again but not sure at this point how to do that.

I have Numbers 6.2, Pages 8.2, and Keynote 9.2 (i.e, the September 30th, 2019 versions). They run just fine with Mojave.

I think the app store is telling you that those programs require a more advanced macossx than you have.

What versions do you have?
(highlight the apps in the finder, and press cmd-I)

Thanks. I checked. My versions were older. I dont use Numbers, Pages or Keynote. Not having much time I just went ahead and downloaded the latest OSX despite some saying there are problems with it. A bit of a headache at the moment. 1Password no longer works in Safari browser, I cant seem to stay logged in with Apple in order to transfer mp4 videos I used to have in iTunes, to a 65" tv so I have to hop over to that section now.
