PROOF the iPhone is (CLEARLY) the best phone in the world...

Ok, first, don't get mad when you evaluate what I consider "proof". :p

But did anybody else notice that Tom Cruise used the iPhone in the new Mission Impossible movie? I'm sure somebody got paid to use an iPhone- but to be fair- it fits. Here's a guy doing the impossible and saving the world, etc... and uses an iPhone, and the phone kinda blends in with the movie. If he pulled out a Droid, it would look much more like product placement, right? It just makes sense that a superhero would use an iPhone.... says a LOT about a company's products, when it makes sense that a fictitious superhero would use one.

So let me get this straight. Apples pays big product placement fees for a fictional character to display their product.

Did I mention that the reason the fictional character is using the product is because Apple paid to have the fictional character display their phone?

And by this "standard", we are to judge the product (which was paid to be displayed) as the best in the world? :rolleyes: ;) :D

So because a closeted alien worshipping cult member who's most famous for jumping on Oprah's couch and criticizing another actress for seeing a psychiatrist to deal with depression uses an iPhone in a movie where Apple likely paid for product placement, that makes it the best phone ever?

As for cool, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts both used LG phones... and who can beat his later transparent do-anything model!

First of all, Ethan Hunt is using the iPhone in that picture- and it's a STOCK iPHONE that you can go into a store and buy- for any other company to make a phone a superhero would (believably) use, they had to use an imagined version. In the photo above a (fictional, but all superheros are) superhero is using a stock retail iPhone.

Whatever phone would have been used, I'm sure it would have been paid product placement.... I'm just saying that for a stock, available product to "fit" an imagined superhero story says a lot about a product.

Charlie Sheen used an iPhone in Two and a Half Men, so that also makes the iPhone the official phone of hookers and blow ;)

No one can claim that the iPhone or any product is infallibly "the best" because the simple fact is "the best" is a subjective term. Meaning it's open to interpretation and is defined by the individual. Since there is no way that all 7 billion people on the planet will agree on this, there will not be any proof or evidence or facts indicating that the iPhone is "the best."

Instead, each person will (should) get what is best for them.

iPhone is by no means the best phone in the world. Even if it was, a photo of an actor using one is no proof. I've seen the iPhone in at least 4-5 different movies and TV series this year.

Uh ? that could have been any phone currently available. All it says about a product is how big of a cheque the studio got for the product placement.

I think you'd be surprised how often companies use products just because they fit a certain look; it's not always product placement. :)

I'm not saying this is or isn't, I'm just saying you can't jump to conclusions one way or the other because sometimes it just happens.

The BMW-dominated scene in The Bourne Identity? Product placement. A prominently featured logo (of whatever company) used in a popular movie? Probably product placement. The bottom of a phone used in a snippet of a scene? Perhaps not. The truth of the matter is, if that's all you see of the iPhone most people would not recognize it.

Good point.:)

I didn't see the movie, but I would suggest that if the Apple logo was visible, I would bet on paid product placement. If the logo was not visible - then I'm more likely to go with your explanation.:D

No phone is ever the best. Everything that has even been created, and ever will be created, will be flawed. While it may be the "perfect" phone in your eyes, in someone else's, it might not be. You can view the phone as "perfect" but you can't make everyone else too.

I got dragged to go see the movie last night. I guess the Macbook Air is the best notebook in the world, since it appears several times in the movie. Also, there were a bunch of BMWs in the movie, including a cool concept car with a Minority Report-style interface to the car's computer. But I'm sure all of that had nothing to do with product placement, right?
