Dear friends,
I am running a BigSur 11.6 OS on my M1 Mac mini.
I did install a Java RE a while back and from the command line I see it's there:
base) bob@Roberts-Mac-mini ~ % java -version
openjdk version "1.8.0_292"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_292-b10)
Eclipse OpenJ9 VM (build openj9-0.26.0, JRE 1.8.0 Mac OS X amd64-64-Bit Compressed References 20210421_909 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)
OpenJ9 - b4cc246d9
OMR - 162e6f729
JCL - 2a5e268814 based on jdk8u292-b10)
Some programs (eg Gephi) that use Java do work but I am now having problems with a software called VOSViewer that dies with a "could not find a JRE" error message.
As suggested in some web pages I sought an /Applications/Utilities/ java settings app but it's not there. Also I don't find a Java entry in my Preferences app.
Did I perhaps install using the wrong procedure that has left utilities and/or environment variables not set properly?
Thank you very much for any suggestion.
