I've moved exclusively to the photo apps. I have a MacBook, iPhone and iPad. I am unclear as to the edit function within the photos app. The sliders etc are the same for raw vs jpeg. Shouldn't there be some unique features for ProRAW files? Also I have my MacBook to optimize space instead of keeping all the files offline. When I click on a specific photo etc will it download the original? Thank you in advance.

If you wanted to use raw files, you probably need a professional level photo editor. Photos is consumer level and the editing features would be the same for jpeg and raw. Unless you really want to get into tweaking everything about photos, raw may be overkill.

True, but the raw file contains more picture data. jpeg throws some away which could make a difference for some editing options.

That is true but only if you need the extra data. Most people don't need that much control of their photos, but if you are really getting into photo editing and manipulation then you may want to use RAW and you would need to look at more advanced photo editing applications than Photos.

Its sort of whether you take your car to the shop for maintenance or want to rebuild your carburetor yourself in your garage.
