Just looking for some feedback before I go ahead and change my 10 year old Apple ID.

I'm trying to get rid of the email associated with it and wish to change it to a more current long term email address.

But I do hear users experience nothing but issues when changing their email associated with the ID.

I'm trying to avoid this, and discuss possibly smoother ways to achieve switching emails?

Anyone care to share their experience?

Appreciatied !

Is your Apple ID an icloud.com address, or an address from an external mail provider? In the latter case, changing it to another external address is no problem at all. I have done this two times already when switching mail providers.

I've done it and I did it just before I got my iPhone 6 2 years ago. I changed it just before logging into my my new iPhone at the time. No issue since then.

Thanks for the replies guys!

My old original email is from a cox account. And I'm switching the new one over to a gmail account I use more.

Very smart move. I would never use and ISP email address for anything. I been trying to tell my sister this, and she learned the hard way. She dropped Comcast and no more Comcast email. She was lucky I set her up with her iCloud email a bit ago, so she had that ready.

most ISP's allow to create 'alias' email addresses... That's what i did when i main ISP address filled up with spam, and now after creation of new address, i no long use it online,, spam has gone..

e.g. Most ISP's i guess would have some kind of online email management portal where u can add email addresses under your main one..

But why would you want to use an ISP email address? If you drop them for service, you no longer have that email address.

And this is my problem. I already dropped cable and phone years ago only keep internet. Not planning on leaving cox soon but one day I will so I want to start changing over my email now to my gmail in preparation for when I do leave cox.
