Hello,
I cannot wait for the Ipad 3g to come out, I have not been a big Apple user until I saw (and Played with) the Ipad. what are my pros and cons of ordering from Apple, verses going into Best Buy and picking one up. I can see advantages at going to Best Buy, 1. easier for me to return with warrenty concerns, 2. easier to get advice if needed. The nearest Apple store is 2 hours away.
The only advantage I can see to ordering is (maybe) am I gaurenteed to get one sooner ? maybe best buy will sell out and I would have to wait then. Just wondering if Im overlooking something on ordering direct, I read a lot of people on this forum have ordered thiers (great forum by the way)
Thanks,
Dan

It seems like a lot of people reported decent inventory at Best Buy, but only after BB got their deliveries in the afternoon on launch day. Personally, my Best Buy had none, but it seems your mileage may vary.

My experience with shipping directly from Apple was smooth, and mine showed up at 9:30ish on Saturday morning.

Do yourself a favor, though; if you do get shipping, try not to obsess over the tracking information. :) It's not going to be correct until the day of shipping.

I bought my iPad at best buy and the buying experience is close to miserable. It's clear that the only way they make any money is to sell you there service contracts... They immediately try to run Apple in the ground to scare you into one. Really pitiful.

I'll never buy anything there again that I can buy online.

Having UPS come to your door is definitely the way to go. However, I am not sure what the return policy would be if there was an issue. Regularly, this would not be a concern but with all of the hoopla about the WiFi, I suggest that you take it into consideration. If you can return it directly to an Apple store if there is a problem then UPS to your door is the way to go. If not then find a best buy or an apple store that has them in stock.

If you were planning on getting a 3G then wait for it and you will be happy that you did. Don't be over anxious and get something now only to regret that you didn't wait another 11 days.

I am waiting until the 3Gs come out and see what issues there are with them before I buy. You didn't have an iPad up until now so I don't think that another 11 days will kill you.

That'll be the same no matter what electronics you buy at a big box store like best buy. It's not the reps fault either, just that it is true that the store doesn't make it's money off of the product itself, but off of the store warranty. Just either say "no thanks" or "let me think about it for a few days" and they usually leave you alone.

Im not sure if im right but I read somewhere that apple makes you ship units back to them for warranty work if you order online. if thats true do whatever you can to get it from an Apple Store or best buy. nothing worse then being so excited for something to show up and when it does its damaged and you have to ship it back and wait a week or more for a replacement.

My experience at BB was painless; however, I bought a week after release. I also do not live in a real urban area.

I currently have a preorder for the 3G version and have the same question as you given that BB has such a good return policy....

Not to hijack, but I have a question. If I buy from best buy and I encounter problems, can I still go to the genius bar at an apple store for support?

What's not to love about Best Buy? Launch Day I walked in and bought an iPad. They didn't have an Apple case so I went to the Apple Store. Or order one and wait to have it shipped to your house. Your call.

I went to best buy on the morning of the third and the experience was great. They gave me a ticket at 9:30 and I went back at 11 to pick the iPad up. Worked fine.

The cool thing about Best Buy is that if you have reward points program and if you're going to waste more than $500 dollars....

you might get a free $30 dollar gift card from best buy!

it has happened to me, thanks to their rewards program.

So....the more points the more free stuff!!! FTW:)

Great experience at my Texas best buy store. They hads tons left over on launch day. I ended up buying 7 ipads and selling 6 on eBay. Almost made enough to make mine free!

Plus I used the reward zone club each time. Got over $100 in gift card credits.

Just my 2 cents.

It's going to be really hard to predict when BestBuy (or even the :apple: stores) will have stock of the 3g models. If you are sure you want it and don't have issues with UPS where you live, then pre-ordering should ensure you get it sooner.

They may handle the distribution of quantities of the 3g models totally different than they did the launch on 4/3. (I walked in and bought at a best buy then returned it 2 days later when I was convinced I wanted the 3g model).

I have made a lot of major purchases at bestbuy this year so I'm in their silver program on Reward Zone points - so I'm pretty much buying everything from them. I have big problems with UPS where I live, so there is almost nothing I will order online from :apple:

I'm just a little frustrated waiting for a mystery date by when I can get mine at bestbuy... would like to pre-order to know I've got a spot in line.

Open up the Best Buy Credit Card and get 18 months 0% financing!! Huge plus, at least for me.

Well if we're going to have pro's and con's, we may as well have verse's.

Painful isn't it?

OP,

It's PROS and CONS, not "pro's" or "con's". And It's VERSUS, not "verses", and certainly not "verse's". What verse exactly does it belong to???

Good God son, take an English class.

I think the iPad/iPhone should come with a 4th grade basic English app which one must complete before getting to buy more apps.
