hmmm just updated to latest version and now its locking phone up at lockscreen...unable to swipe or press anybuttons or do anything until ive removed the update ....anyone else ?

I stopped using it.. too buggy for me. So is springtomize3. There are other apps that get the job done that are more stable.

can you recommend a tweak that does the same as protean then please ?

yeah I agree on Protean, I didn't like it at all, however springtomize3 has been flawless for me

Yeah springtomize has been flawless for me too. What issues were you having? The latest Protean 2.0-62 is working great for me.

Basically the moving around the status bar icons wifi battery signal etc

Have u tried a hard reset holding home button and powering off ....when mine restarts I'm unable to do anything
