Hello there, Protube stopped working on iOS11, i think because of the changed API from Google, are there any alternatives for background playing? Thx

I can't find Youtube ++ and has anybody testet BetterTube yet and now if its trustworthy?

I testet Tubex briefly just now and deleted it already. It is not a replacement for ProTube. Not even close.

I feared this day...

I feared this day...

Tubex (https://itunes.apple.com/at/app/tubex-video-music-player/id1164818253?mt=8)
dose not allow you to sign in. → no subscriptions visible. And it plays in the background but does not offer PiP.

I still use ProTube but indeed for background playback this doesn't work anymore when you have to select 'the alternative player'within ProTube when searching for a video.

The Tubex one you mention in another one then I downloaded a few months ago which had a red icon and has PiP and still works here but is not in the App Store anymore.

Some alternatives (although not perfect and not ProTube) which are currently in the App Store are:

Musi
It has: background playback, login, no ads (banner or video) but only if you do the 3.99 dollar in-app (once) otherwise you will get loads of full size video ads and a banner, it has Slide Over/Split View (however Slide Over looks pretty bad),

It lacks: PiP, Chromecast, the homescreen and the rest of the app is mainly focused on music while you can also perfectly watch other things with it

Evercast / Streamy (both apps are from same developer)
It has: background playback, login, Pip, Slide Over/Split View, no ads (banner or video) but only if you do the 3,49 euro in-app (once) otherwise you will get full size ads and banners.

It lacks: Chromecast, it's not in the US App Store but is available in certain countries in Europe

Yep, ProTube is now finally gone thanks to this error. For those who have no idea I'll post a few pictures to illustrate how things are now. At least I can use to get the links from the videos, and then open another app or the browser to see them.

When opening ANY video:

Now look what happens if I hit "alternate player" (and of course this needs to be done for every video):

There's no way to configure or use anything now, for any video. And the background playback doesn't work in this scenario.

But the good news is that all the rest works, so I am logged into my own channel and can see my updates or playlists. I just can't play any video.

@pacorob unfortunately this Evercast app is flawed. Some videos are not loading at all, while others are perfectly normal. And the app limits you to 720p, while ProTube could display up to 4K videos. Definitely needs a lot of improvement, despite not being that bad.

I wouldn't pay for it, though, since it's quite clear these apps can stop working all of sudden.

My suggestion is to use this app to download YT videos: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tot...anager-cloud-storage-support/id557285579?mt=8

And nPlayer (browser tab) or this Evercast to run them...

I know that the Evercast app is not perfect indeed but it does offer quite a few features for just a cup of coffee. I don't have the latest iOS devices so 720p is enough for me but I get what you are saying.

Then again I am using the new modded Protube someone uploaded for free that fixed it for us! You can only use it if you already paid for Protube previously on the app store I believe. I am not 100% sure on that but about 90% sure.

Unfortunately right now by default it only works on jailbroken devices but if you want to know how to get it to work on non jailbroken devices I can help. I figured out a way.

Hi, max2. Can you let me know how you’ve done this? I’m really missing the PIP feature from ProTube

max2, I got ProTube installed on my non jailbroken iPhone with the IPA and Cydia impactor, will I have to sign the app every 7 days even if I had purchased it before it was removed from iTunes?
