Prove that Lion is way slower with Intel HD3000 chipsets

At the Apple developers program it has been mentioned Lion GM is way slower when you have Intel HD3000 chipsets (every new MBP).
I may/can not post the whole thread but here is a snipped:

10.6.8
User Interface Elements 399.27 1.83 Krefresh/sec

10.7 (GM):
User Interface Elements 81.64 374.70 refresh/sec

That makes Lion about 5 times slower with Intel HD3000 chipset.

Unbelievable but true. :-/

I'm guessing you used Xbench for this? Did you also know that Xbench is hasn't been updated in over five years? I recommend using GeekBench, you'll get more accurate results.

It is optimized for Tiger, very early Intell Macs, and PPC Macs. Plus, it cannot use any of the new graphics technologies since introduced with Leopard or later.

Its like using a speedometer from a Ford Model T in a modern day SUV. Sure you'll get a speed and a distance traveled, but it'll be way off.

I do not know which tool he used but as long he used the same tool for both it is representative.

BTW and if you have a Intel HD3000 you also notice it by using Lion. It is sooo slow.

As far as I know Intel HD3000 are only used on MBP 2011 (i5 and i7).
But you can check it yourself:

I just don't understand all this crying. If Lion isn't going to work for you, then, stick with 10.6.8. Bitching and moaning isn't going to solve anything. Stick with what works for you and use it.

$29 is not going to break Apple, and I'm sure they (top management) would rather you be happy with your Apple experience. So, if that means sticking with 10.6, I'm sure they won't mind one bit. Eventually you'll have to buy a new computer and then you can get onboard with 10.7 or 10.8 or whatever the latest and greatest is at that time.

It's not like you can't purchase music, videos, movies, etc. from the iTunes store or apps from the Mac App Store with 10.6.8. It's my opinion that it's the burning in your crotch or the latest and greatest, biggest and baddest. And when you can't afford it and can't say that you have it, buyer's remorse sets in regarding the last purchase you made and having to vent at someone, Apple is the target because "THEY MADE YOU BUY THAT SORRY-ASSED 13" MBP!"

Be satisfied with what you have and stop chasing the world unnecessarily. You'll be a whole lot happier.

Except that this affects all MBPs, including the latest and greatest one...

Another reason why people will be annoyed by this: The MBP is the only line of computers with the graphics switching technology (Unless I'm forgetting something, in any case my point will still be valid). This means that lower end computers like the regular macbook, which only has a GeForce 320m, will run lion better (by default) than a high end MBP. So basically we have a higher end machine, that we paid good money for, that can't even run its own OS as well as lower end models. Sure, you could just put the dedicated graphics card on at all times, but the graphics switching capability of MBPs is one of their major selling points, presumably they aren't looking to make that obsolete. At least thats one thing that I find interesting. Also, consider the fact that once Lion is released, it will be on all MBPs out of the box. Meaning the customer has no choice, and it will just run like crap immediately out of the box. Its supposed to be "It just works.", not "It just works, after you disable a major feature of the computer you just dropped possibly $2,000+ on"

Also, you think apple really doesn't care if people buy lion? Interesting theory. Except that they are a company that likes to make money. So eliminating (rather, deterring) a significant portion of their customer base because they couldn't get their OS optimized shouldn't exactly be small potatoes.

1. It would be nice to assume that a new version of OSX is better than the old.

2. If the new version is indeed worse than the old version, forums like this are useful for figuring out not to upgrade.

You are being sarcastic, right? Cause I cannot really imagine anyone going back to SL because of a 0.4% difference in a static benchmark number. Especially since apparently before running the benchmark you never noticed anything.

And in the spirit of spreading information, you misspelled the word 'Your' in the context in which you used it. It should be spelled "You're", and just so that I'm on topic in this 'MacRumors' forum, one of the features of OS X Lion 10.7 would have caught that mistake and auto-corrected it for you.

Honestly, I keeping Lion, to much work to move back to SL (already move my accounts to iCloud, and my iDevices to iOS 5) but it's not the difference in numbers, that was just to illustrate that Lion GM runs slower than SL, and I know this is normal, with future updates things will get better.

Sorry about the misspelled word, english its not my primary language. Its true about the auto-correction feature of OS X Lion (I was using safari on my iPhone, and keyboard its setup for spanish)

For the record, I will try me best not to misspell a word again when using my iPhone. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.

Your post makes no sense. This is an Apple discussion forum. If there are issues with the newest OS X, those will obviously be discussed. Further, this is not an issue affecting older machines or outdated hardware -- it affects anyone with the "latest and greatest" MBPs, an expensive computer. It's silly and annoying and of course it's going to be discussed on a site called "Macrumors." If you "just don't understand this" you might want to check out another site...MacPositiveFandom.com? Did you not read my response to your initial post? This isn't about people wining because they have outdated hardware. This affects an entire line of CURRENT products.

Look, as said before Apple is going to sell MBP (the top of the bill) with Lion preinstalled. It is a fact Lion isn't working nicely with Intel HD3000.
So, in the end you buy a high-end expensive machine which doesn't work smooth and you are forced to use Lion.
If this is what you call 'Whining' I call it implicit ignorance.

Lion runs fine for me on my i5 13" MBP with Intel 3000. In fact, it seems to run much much faster than it ever did on Snow Leopard.

I kinda doubt that Apple woud ship of high-end products that would feel sluggish, so I'd assume they'd do something about it before the launch of Lion, it would spell to much bad PR otherwise I think *-)

My guess is that he's one of those people who don't really notice slightly clipped/sluggish animations. I know lots of people who see nothing wrong with their iPhone 4 animations when I can tell that they're jumpy as hell. It's all about perception. If you're the kind of person who notices little visual details, it may bother you. I don't think the OS will actually be "sluggish" in any meaningful sense, though. It's animations will look choppier. Which, IMO, is a big fail...but what can you do?
