Proxy server not working?

I am trying to setup a proxy server (HTTP and HTTPS) in my Firefox. This does not work, the proxy is not honored. Firefox keeps connecting through my own connection.

So I go into System Preferences and change the systemwide properties for my Airport network. Specify http and https proxy, and APPLY the changes. This still has no effect.

Any idea what I am missing?
