Not sure which forum is appropriate for this, but... I wonder if the PS3 Bluetooth remote control (not the game controller) could be used with VLC to control movies. I hate the Apple Remote. It's so picky and slow. There would be no line of sight issues.

What do you mean by picky? And are you running the latest version of VLC? I have noticed that my remote works very well with the latest version of VLC, which I hadn't realized even had remote support, so it was a bit of a surprise with the pause button worked

Sometimes the remote will not register a button press unless I press more than once, or there will be a delay (I'll press pause twice) and it will pause and unpause a second later. I have the Macbook two feet away from me directly in my line of sight.

Ok, that is weird since I have been able to use my remote from all kinds of angles at close to 30 ft, course the further away i get the more LOS it needs to be on the receiver.

Try holding the remote directly in front of the MacBook and then press and hold the play and menu button until something appears on your screen. That is pairing the remote to the MacBook, might help it to speed things up.

Also, you never answered, are you running the latest version of VLC?

Oops, it's VLC 0.8.6c on Tiger 10.4.10. I'll try what you suggested.

This doesn't answer the original question... can you use the PS3 bluetooth remote? No matter how you look at it... it's a much better option than an IR remote, no line of sight issues being #1, ability to use rechargeable batteries #2, one less remote, priceless :)

Cliff.

I posted this as a feature request on the Videolan.org forums. It will probably go ignored, but I did it anyway.
