Not only is the release of the Sony PlayStation 3 bringing about horribly long lines and unbelievably high auction prices but the shortage is also life-threatening to some.

Some would call this maddening or terrible but I call it quite simply: sad. To think that we feel, especially in the US, that we are "on top of the world" and yet we are capable of this...Disappointing indeed. It's not hard to understand how humans will certainly become extinct with such a nature.

I'd rather wait till the game looses it's initial popularity before buying it. That's pretty much what I did with my PS2, and still fun to play games on. :)
 
Buckland Hills is in my town and from what I have heard mall security started giving people escorts to their cars.
 
I don't understand how releasing EXTREMELY limited numbers of consoles benefits anyone except for active ebayers. Sure there is the hype, but what about all the thousands of people ready to give their paycheck to Sony on the release day and aren't able to get one.

Releasing it in small / short quantity creates a buzz and makes people want it more. In the short term it does only help the ebayers, but sony is hoping that when it comes out in mass quantities everyone buys one because they had wanted one. More people want one because they couldn't get one before. Someone who gets one brags about it making other people want it more. CC can pair it with a TV and sell the TV as well ...

I don't see it in that way. It's obvious many adults are willing to pay high amounts for this so why not grab a piece of that pie? I don't say that they should or anyway suggest but since it is happening, don't say you wouldn't do the same. Lastly, I most definitely am not advocating physical violence or shooting others for such a thing.

With your theory, that makes pimps entirely blame-free for the spread of prostitution.

It all depends on your outlook on morals. I really wouldn't make money in this way. There are plenty of kids and people alike wanting PS3's because they want to play games. It's a shame they make their way into the hands of the aforementioned money "pimps".

I don't agree with it either. I think it's fair to sell things on eBay, and I understand that it's a free market, but this is just greedy. The RRSP is a certain price, and it's being sold at that price. To buy one just to take advantage of the situation may be smart thinking economically, but not a nice way to be thinking.

There's a lot of people to take advantage of in this world, and a certain type of mentality in people willing to actually do it.

That's not fair, really. Some of these people are just trying to get these PS3s for themselves to play with, and others for their children who really want one for Xmas. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, especially not wrong enough to be killed by someone else.

Give me a break. No, you don't try to make as much money as you can...Of course not...Why would you? :rolleyes: Prostitution is fine. It wouldn't exist if there weren't a good number of people interested in it and willing to pay for it. You're making this a one sided story. What...Others can't make decisions for themselves? Others can't do research? I can go on and on. Morally...Yeah, it's debatable but it isn't this horrible one sided deal that you make it out to be. The only problem I see with this kind of thing or anything like it is when "sellers" falsify things. Unfortunately, despite attempts, it doesn't seem like that will likely change.

So...Why are so many willing to pay so much over MSRP? Since they are -- Which I wouldn't do -- Really...Why not take advantage of that? It's a choice they made for themselves, I didn't make it for them.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, the world is f****d up in this way since everyone does it to everyone. Does it make it right? No. Do I enjoy it when others take advantage of me? No.

I agree, I"m most certainly not advocating physical violence, that's insane...I'm also not advocating paying 3x the MSRP...But it's happening.
 
I'm not saying that you shot anybody ... but the fact that you're taking advantage of the situation. By taking that advantage the supply is even shorter and apparently people got to the point where they decided it was worth resorting to violence.

If I wanted to use ridiculous examples I could compare it to things like drugs, and funding terrorism, but thats not fair to you, even though its the same in theory.

All said, the problem I mentioned is the inflated PS3 price, you're a part of that problem whether you accept it or not.
 
While this is a big problem in a vacuum, my own personal concerns are more about the city of Philadelphia and the amount of kids (14 and 15) that are going around shooting each other for minor slights, such as bumping into someone and not saying sorry.

It's a huge thing going on in Philadelphia, we're working our way towards murder #400 and it doesn't seem to be stopping.

So, I'm not really surprised that people are shooting people over PS3's.

Sounds to me that Philly needs PARENTS. Man, i used to get in fights in high school, but had I ever pulled a gun, let alone use one, my father would have beat me bloody. Maybe more of these little bastards need that. Someone who's willing to put a boot in their ass for doing something so stupid.

As for the PS3 and people getting trampled and hurt over it. It's not Sony's fault. In fact, if the stores that this stuff happened at had a plan of action, because they KNEW (and they had to, if they didn't they should be shut down for being so ignorant) that lines would be long, and people wanted them.

But no, they chose to let everyone mob the front of the store and thus created a mob mentality, where you take the lowest IQ of the person in the crowd, divide it by the number of people in the crowd, and you get the average IQ of every person in the mob.

It's sad, he's had so little reception to that message he has come back to Temple to talk to us Teaching majors, and he's basically said that we are going to be the parent figures now.

You are quite simply part of the problem. You are adding to the 'horribly long' lines, 'unbelievably high auction prices' and the 'shortage'.

You are no different to the ticket touts at concerts or sports events, who buy up the tickets that regular people are trying to get, and them sell them for profit on the door.

Those people are scum, and it is illegal. The only difference between what you and they are doing is that in your case it seems to be legal.

He's one of those people who thinks that taking advantage of someone/people who are poor and need money is OK, since he didn't put them into that situation.

And yes, his sort of mentality is the problem. It's 'Survival of the Fittest", I guess. We really are the "Me" Generation.

I'm sorry, you are the most humble of man since you donate all of your worldly possessions to those less fortunate...What a crock! Prostitution, gambling, and all of these supposedly greedy activities exist why? Maybe, just maybe because there is a worthy amount of demand. So, if there wasn't the horny person out there that doesn't mind spending a few dollars for some *$@#, there wouldn't be hookers. Shooting someone, that is a very different thing. Why? It involves others without consent or choice. Gambling, pregnancies, selling PS3s for above MSRP, prostitution, ... "take two to tango." I don't lie to others, I don't steal items that aren't rightfully mine and I didn't earn. I didn't sell a PS3 that was used for 12 hours and than re-packaged, no, I sold a sealed ( new ) PS3 that I properly described and posted photos of the exact unit he / she would be receiving. If no one bid above MSRP, so be it but the possible buyers decided it was worth their time ( money ). Don't give me this guff about morality because you won't win.

Put very simply...I have no intentions of harming anyone, wasting anyone's time, ... nor do I have intentions of letting anyone do such to me. Despite what conclusion you've made, I'm an individual who would much rather have things equal than one sided...Even if it benefited me. Why's that? Quite simple really...Than no one is unhappy, overall. I'm not going to be ecstatic but none of us will be sad. Works out great for all than.

Anywho...

Since the hype is over and whatnot of the original subject, I officially withdraw from this thread.
 
Its one of the things I hate about ebay. Concert tickets now seem to be bought by people trying to make a quick buck so they become a lot harder to get hold of, in turn driving up prices. Same thing happens with consoles - took me ages to get hold of an XBox 360 during the initial launch but was buggered if I was going to buy one off ebay.
