PS3 on iMac

iMac does not have a video in port, so it is not easy to do. There are ways to do it, but it tends to be messy. You could buy an elgato eye-tv usb port.
Okay, That's cleared up quite a bit, its not possible through the MiniDisplay Port, but maybe through USB.
EDIT: I've found that Elgato DO NOT supply what I need (HDMI/DVI in, USB out)
I'm pretty sure your NOT going to be able to use just the iMac's screen as a display for the PS3 using a USB based TV tuner unless you can find a DVI to coaxial signal converter...
You either need a dedicated video capture device http://www.epiphan.com/products/frame-grabbers/?gclid=CJbIw_6f15kCFUU_3godFkh3aw, or crack open the iMac and come up with some kind of video pass through cable which lets you bypass "iMac" part of the computer and goes straight to the screen...I have no idea how the iMac screen is connected to the mother board so am not sure if this is even possible.
Also don't forget before the PS3 will play a BlueRay disc it will check for HDCP Compliance on the display device which your iMac is guaranteed to fail so BlueRays simply wouldn't play..

No as far as am aware only BlueRay films use HDCP(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection)..
My suggestion is to just save up for a bigger screen/TV..HD content is really only worth while on screens which are 32inch +...unless you plan on sitting right in front of the screen when your watching movies!!

The best you can do is use the s-video on an eye-tv (or similar) device. You lose quality, but it works.
Not only will you lose quality with using a video capture device, you will also suffer a delay. This is fine for watching a movie, but makes it worthless for gaming.
Short answer: Not possible from a practical standpoint. You would be better off buying a second cheap monitor for the PS3.

Unfortunately that's not possible and it sux. You'd need something that does real time video compression from PS3 output and stream it through USB2.0. There's not enough bandwidth for 1080p; 720p might be doable. There is just no market for this kind of devices.
It's a shame that Apple doesn't include any options to plug in an external device to iMac (if you have a Macbook too, you might want a big screen sometimes).

No point trying. You're not going to get anything close to good quality, and don't even dream of playing Blu-Ray movies.

Actually, that's not true. There's very minimal delay, I am able to play my Super Nintendo and my PS2 on my EyeTV without problems.
If you can connect the PS3 to S-Video or Composite somehow, then you can connect it to the iMac via EyeTV.
Quality, however, is another story. There's no way to get, HDMI or Component quality video to the iMac screen.
They must be getting faster.
That said, I doubt serious gamers would consider it, casual might be ok though. And FPS, where people complain about the response time of monitors, probably will have noticeable lag.
