PS4 Controller not working although connected

Hi,
I have checked the forum before writing this but could not have found a similar issue.

I am running a MBPro 15-inch, Mid 2012 on Mojave 10.14.6 and connect the SONY PS4 controller via BT which is successfully connected.

But when I start an app and want to use the controller the controller is not being recognized, e.g. in Psychonauts only the mouse and keyboard can be used for steering.

Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

@hwojtek Thanks. I tried it out but unfortunately it still does not work.
I actually was expecting it to be automatically supported after being connected. But it is not.
