why would it? seems an odd question. the OS, your apple apps, your icloud stuff... all tied to your apple ID. but why would an advance install of a developing OS affect the id itself?

because the reason why I ask this is that when it was first released iMessages and iCloud sync which was then stopped before it was re-released again. I lost quite a few important messages.

The other thing I realised is there is no such thing as a stupid question! If you don't know, you don't know. simply put just ask!

am not saying it's a stupid question, not at all. and losing messages, for example, is an issue that does not mean 'damaging' or 'losing' your apple ID. but a beta is a beta, and the ones leading up to a first release of a new OS are not for everyone. if you're anxious about it, you don't need it.

Only thing I can see being an issue is if you upgrade your reminders in Catalina and aren't running iOS 13 or watchOS 6 on your other devices, I've heard the reminders app won't work on older software if you do that.

It sounds like the question you're asking is "Can a public beta ruin my iCloud data?"

One would hope that Apple wouldn't release a public beta without being reasonably sure that it doesn't ruin your iCloud data. But then again this beta is allegedly quite bad.

So if you have no particular good reason to install it, why risk it?

Apple ID will be fine BUT it is absolutely possible for beta OS to corrupt iCloud account that is tied to your Apple ID. I have experienced it in the past (around iOS 6 or 7) and I had to contact developer support to clear affected iCloud data.
