Pulled the trigger on iMac - 24in 2.4hgz

I DID it guys!! Former PC Windows User... my first Mac ever. I know there are talk about possible upgrade in the iMac in the future (possible late this year)... but i figure i wont even know the speed difference for what i do... trying to make it future proof for 3 years or so.

Mainly will be used for simple things....

- I dont play games..
- Do little photo editting, surf, chat, email...
- Extract big files and burn CD/DVD data.... music/movie storage type of device in my kitchen countertop area
- My wife isnt friendly with computer.. need simple system for her and main reason i chose Mac for us is due to her ability to just able to "USE" it rather than figure out why it doesnt work. ( She just checks email/surf the web/ and goes on food network site to get recipes for cooking stuff :) )

I also got Kingston - Memory - 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) - SO DIMM 200-pin - DDR II - 667 MHz for $102 shipped...


I like paying no tax... wish more stores were like this.... I went overboard with MEM i know :eek:


Just need a ext HD to move all my music/movie data to be shared in my home network.. recommend any device without breaking my bank again?

Congrats. I'm in exactly the same boat. My first Mac is the 24" 2.4 which I got a couple months ago and I LOVE it! Personally, I think the extra ram is WELL worth it. I noticed a huge difference in performance from 1gig to 4gig especially. Even for normal tasks like surfing the web. It's just snappier.

Ya.. I just didnt even want the system to think for split second.. lol... snappier click click happy is what i wanted...

I have a lot to learn about the OS X... converting from Windows since its DOS -> 3.1 -> 95 -> 98 -> 2000 -> XP

Be the force guide me! :rolleyes:

But dont you think all the new specs are gonna cost way too much?? I guess im ok with not having the latest and fastest stuff... as long as im kinda near it and hang with time until current system gets really really outdated.... only worry is if they DROP the current system price like several hundred dollars simply because new Intel chipset is now part of the future iMac series...

I'm pretty sure the prices will drop on the current iMac IF the new processors come out. Just like how the 2.16 MacBooks dropped after the SR was present. In your first post you seemed like you wanted to ensure your purchase was future proof yet you pulled the trigger so early. Ironically by the time the machine will be delivered to your door MacWorld probably would've happened :rolleyes:

btw Apple wouldn't increase the price it would just stay the same as the current lineup.
 
Congratulations on becoming a member of the club! You will not regret your decision to go Mac. In fact, you won't ever want to go back to a Windows PC again. From the simply fast start-up time (takes mine 9 seconds) to not having to worry about registry issues and viral infections, you wlll be most happy with your purchase. BTW, you can never go overboard with ram! Enjoy!
 
It seems really unlikely that...

Apple will do anything with the iMacs since they were just upgraded in August. I would have thought Macworld would be about Mac Pros but they updated those this morning. Here's hoping I'll be able to replace my 12inch g4 Powerbook with something more current that will still suit my needs and not break my bank account. :)
Now just one other question - Why do so many people refer to this purchase as "pulling the trigger" and why does it seem like the people who do that most are current or recently switched Windows users? Oh, that's 2 questions.:D

haha I have no idea why i put "pulling the trigger". FOr me to change to Mac OS is due to my love and hate emotions about WIndows.Ive been a long time user but seems like most Mac users are "happier" and not angry at their computer.. haha

je1ani: It's my impatience and Im trying to justify as much as possible. Inevitably, yes.. you area right about Macworld happening and announcing updates on the iMac.. it will happen in a small or large scale.. but it will probably happen with the new chipset coming out or they may change something. Try to make me feel good bro... its my first Mac :)
