Anyone know of a way to pay and download an image of XP?

I got my new MBP, and am having a bit of a tough time getting Windows to install. I am travelling, and don't have access to oan English version of Windows in any stores for another 4 to 6 weeks. I had thought that I would be able to have a coworker rip my copy of XP to a disc image (my old notebook died a disgraceful death a couple of months ago - was a Dell 5150 YUCK!) My XP rip isn't working, and I am getting desperate. I don't mind the cost - company will pay for it as it looks like my notebook XP license was only good on the Dell hardware anyway.

I have used Microsoft VM? and used a thirty day trial of Vista before - that would be better than nothing - but our company won't pay for Vista licenses yet so I can't buy it. I really just need to get our VPN access and corporate software running for the next month or so on this MBP until I get back.

Of course - they are all saying "I told you so" about my choice of a MBP rather than ordering from Dell Japan.... :(

You can't purchase a downloadable copy of XP legally. However, under some circumstances, you can for Vista.

See here:

Note that this is a Microsoft Website, not a third-party.

Of course, this requires an installation of XP already on your HD.

Can your work provide you with access to a server for as long as it takes to download a copy? You could get a coworker to rip XP, put it up on a server for a few hours, and email you the license key.

It's perfectly legal to make as many copies of XP install disks as you want, but you need a license key for each install.

An alternative is to get your IT department (if you have one) or a coworker to create a VMWare or Parallels VM.
