A new member here and my first post.

Im about to purchase an new M1 iMac and upgrade the RAM & SSD and when i spoke to an assistant today they said if i ordered today it would ship with Big Sur so i would have to update to Monterey myself or if i ordered next week it would ship with Monterey. I thought that seeing it takes two weeks to deliver it would come with Monterey installed instead of Big Sur.
Im just wondering it would be any benefit in waiting until next week but had planned to order it today a is need a new machine.
I must admit it would be nice to have to perform an upgrade myself on the brand new machine although not a problem as i have updated OS in the past

Your thoughts and advice would be welcome

Thanks

Just to be sure, you understand that these are "non-upgradeable" beyond the factory-installed configurations?

In other words, you have to order the amount of RAM and size of SSD when you buy.
You can't upgrade one later.

Having said that...
It's probably going to be several weeks before new Macs start shipping with Monterey (other than the brand-new Mx MacBook Pros).
So I reckon that whatever Mac you buy/order in the next 2, 3, 4 weeks is still going to come with Big Sur on it.

So figure on doing the upgrade yourself.
Not much to it -- thousands upon thousands of other Mac users do that as a matter of course.
