Purchase Iphone 3gs from best buy HELP PLEASEE!

I am from India. I was wondering if I can buy the iphone 3gs from best buy from somewhere in the US, unlock it and then use it here in India or in the UK?

Do I need to sign/purchase a contract with AT&T or any other specific carrier when I purchase the iphone 3gs from best buy?

Also if you have any other alternative to purchasing the iphone and then using it in India and the UK please tell me!

I would say in your case Ebay is a very good option! ny it Jb if you aren't sure or get one with 3.0 or 3.0.1 firmware is your best bet. but buying ebay you will be more likely to know the firmware it comes with.

You'll have to sign a 2yr contract with AT&T if you buy it here in the US from a retail store. You can certainly buy one from someone selling on ebay, Craigslist, etc but make sure it has 3.0 or 3.0.1 firmware since 3.1 cannot be unlocked at this time.

It's not the site, it's the people. Just watch for possible scams is all.

Obviously the "safest" place would be a store such as Apple or Best Buy, but alas, you cannot buy it there for your needs.

look for buy.com's ebay store, they sell many factory unlocked iphones, but its going to be $$$$$
