So new to the Mac Forum. Forgive the long post. Looking for some advice. I have an IMAC 27" 5K Late 2015 desktop. Computer runs very slow. Fan is load. Pictures don't sync quickly (take about 24hours) iMessages are slow to appear. Desktop files are slow to sync even though everything is synced to the cloud. I have spend hours and months with Tech Support to get this all resolved. Never fixed my problem. I have a MacBook Pro (2017) that works great. I am wondering if I should purchase a new IMAC or if I should purchase a docking station and use the MacBook Pro as my desktop. I have two external 4K monitors that I could easily hook up to the docking station if need be. Any advice

Just wondering... how much free space is left on the drive in the iMac...?

If you already have 2 4K monitors, you can basically get the benefit of an "iMac" while getting the versatility of a laptop (and what's generally a product more-focused on by Apple, more frequent updates, etc.)

I currently have a late-2016 13" MBP, that I use 80% of the time in closed-clamshell mode at a desk into an external 27" 4K monitor with separate Magic KB / Trackpad. I love the best-of-both-world's setup where I get the "desktop" like experience when I need, and able to just take the laptop with me the 20% of the time I'm traveling / want to work on sofa or bed.

It's not exactly the same of course (the iMac 5K 27" screen likely better than your 4K monitors, etc.) but practically I think pretty close if you're in the market for a new computer.
