I just purchased an Apple TV and it has seen (through computer sharing) the digital copies of bluray movies that were downloaded to be installed on my iphone and ipad. These are from the "Digital Copy" disk that comes with Bluray movies. My question is when the Apple TV shows them under the "Purchased" tab it does not specifically have the "HD" notation in it. Even when I go to "Rent" a movie and look the movie up (Dark Knight), it will not allow me to rent it as it thinks I have it purchased. Is there a reason why it does not show/allow the HD to be seen?

I don't think digital copies are HD. I always thought those were SD so they could be smaller in file size to be able to put on you iPhone/iPad
The BD's that come with digital copies are almost always standard definition. The studios don't yet understand that in 2012 people aren't interesting in watching pixelated crap. They also don't want the average joe to learn that the 1080P movie iTunes has is pretty darn nice looking. They want to protect their dinosaur physical media driven sales model.
I understand that the digital copy is in SD but since that came with a Bluray which is HD, why won't it at least allow me to purchase or rent the HD version? It would be nice if it were smart enough to recognize that the original purchase was in HD and "match" this on the Apple TV. It streams from the net and not my shared computer that the digital copy was originally on (I tested this by shutting that computer down). It is just disappointing that once you put a purchased digital copy on a computer you are almost locked out of having the ability to watch that movie in HD on the ATV.

A digital copy is registered in iTunes with a code. It's copied to the iTunes library. You can go to the iTunes store content with an AppleTV or iPad and stream most of the shows that you previously registered, as they display under "purchased" content.
How is that not "connected" to your iTunes account?
If you have redeemed your digital copy through iTunes, then it has everything to do with your itunes account.
Ahh my mistake, sorry. I had no idea they now have Blu-Ray digital copies with iTunes codes. I wonder if they expire like the DVD ones do.
