I bought my iPad two weeks ago, does this mean I am automatically on the original 3G plan?

Only if you sign up now for the unlimited plan. However, if one month you decide you don't need it and cancel you will not see the unlimited option again after that. It's a total screw over.

So if I sign up for the unlimited plan, does that mean I am charged right away?

I'm confused because isn't it true that the original 3G is contract free, meaning you can use it what ever month you want?

Yes, you are charged right away.

Due to the new terms of the contract, if you want to keep the unlimited you have to keep paying for it and you can't take a month(s) off.

What????

I purposely got the 3g because of the contractless option of paying as you go....so that's obsolete?

If you want to have the unlimited, you'll have to pay for it every month until you stop and then you lose the option. The 200MB and 2GB are contractless.

My question is if you let the unlimited plan lapse do you lose it.I think you will lose it. So they turned it into a contract but with no guarantees on how long you will have it. Win win for AT&T.

Unlimited is still no-contract, i.e., there is no penalty for stopping when you want. But when you stop you are out.

i'm, on AT&T and the rep is telling me that for the iPhone the unlimited plan will continue for those who already have the unlimited plan.

The rep is checking on whether iPad users who purchased their iPads prior to the new change can continue to have that 3g option as you go.

I'll update you on what I find out.

Ok, the rep confirmed that I would need to use the unlimited option month by month, once I stop, that option ends. Sucks like leeches!
