Hello.

Despite my utter love for the Apple Music service, I sometimes purchase albums (few times a year) as I like to have fun using the actual music tracks for some non-profit animation experiments I like to work on.
I have been doing this since 2011.

That said, I just purchased an album and when I proceeded to download it I noticed is has downloaded the tracks as MOVPKG files, which are unplayable by any software I have on my mac...
Why has apple dropped the traditional ALAC (M4A) downloads? It makes no sense to allow purchasing an album if you don't get the audio tracks as traditionally usable files...
Am I doing something wrong?

This is the type of file (please consider that despite the icon, it still doesn't open in the Apple TV App)

Thank you.

MOVPKG is used for Apple TV+ and Apple Music high-resolution video and audio files. So as an Apple Music subscriber, if your preferences are to download music in high-resolution formats, it will download as a MOVPKG.

If you disable high-resolution downloads in Apple Music's preferences, it should switch to M4A.

Thank you.
However if I try inserting the MOVPKG files in an apple music playlist (inside the app) it doesn't play it.
Weirdly enough Apple Music cannot play these files.

Anyway yes, disabling lossless audio seems to let me download the m4a files, however I'd appreciate Apple Music having to separate settings for streaming and downloads.
I have to disable lossless audio alltogether; I can re-enable it afterwards, sure, but it's still a bit of an unpolished experience.
