Hi -

I was looking to buy our first Mac, but wasn't interested in dumping a substantial amount of money for an iMac. Just basically light word processing, email, pics, and browsing.

I looked on Craigslist and found the following. They accepted my offer of $200 which seems pretty good when looking at Ebay. I know it's not that new, but seemed like a good starting place and allowed us to reuse the existing monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

MAC MINI
LIKE NEW
500 GIG HARDDRIVE
4 GIG OF RAM
2 GIG DUAL CORE INTEL PROCESSOR
DVD SUPER DRIVE
SNOW LEAPARD
Nvidia 9400GS

Just reloading the OS now. I do believe it's time to look for a new monitor. I found the following Samsung 21.5 LED at Costco for 169. We really don't need anything that terribly large.

Any recommendations on where to buy iLife and iWork at a discounted price? I suppose Ebay or Amazon would be the best.

Anyway, I'll be reviewing this forum quite often. Thanks.

I would check out the refurb dell monitors. I've been pretty impressed so far with the 27" that I bought and you can get them for a steal.

Any suggestions for a 22" Dell refurb?

How about the best place besides Apple to buy iLife and iWork?

Thanks.

The 2209WA is a wonderful monitor. It's IPS with USB ports, height adjustment, and other nice features. It costs a bit more, but it is very nice. I don't know about the outlet models, but the new models have the Dell Ultrasharp warranty which will replace your monitor if you have one dead/stuck pixel for 3 years. The U2211H also has those features.

Try Amazon for the software. They are usually cheaper than Apple.

buy the samsung it is a good price it is a 1080p and since it is a 21-22 inch it will be sharp compared to a 1080p 27 inch. same amount of pixels in a smaller space means sharper.

Good price on that mini! Congrats! It's the same model that I have. I've had no trouble with it and have used it a ton. It'll do what you need and more.

You got a good deal there, congratulations! :)

Though, I have no idea what a "2 GIG DUAL CORE INTEL PROCESSOR" is :p

As I've been reading about all kinds of bugs and slow performance of iLife 11, I found a brand new copy of iLife 09 (upgrading from 08 on my Macbook) on eBay for $25 shipped. I figure I'll wait until Apple works out all of the bugs from their latest version and since I only use iPhoto, will save some $ and purchase only that software once it's available on the new Mac App Store in a few months.

Really enjoying the mini. I just need to give up one program from Windows....Quicken. I've already migrated to Office for the Mac.

I'll look around on Ebay for iLife 09 and iWork.

Next thing is continuing to look at monitors. Sure liking the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, but have a hard time justifying about $130 for those two.

Thanks all.

Yeah.. I just got an $800 Mac Mini and got jewed out of a keyboard and mouse. Got to LOVE Apple. Psh. Tight ass Jobs.

I picked up the following LED from Office Depot this morning for 159 (169-10 coupon).

I haven't opened yet. They only had one left and has seen some pretty good reviews.

I like the Hanns you point me to.

I still love the machine. Just trying to stop from buying the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. They are nice those.

Thanks everyone.
