Dear Macrumours users,

I am on vacation with my family, and brought my macbook. We only have one of those fancy 3G modems with usb to get online. One of the kids wanted Sim City so badly, so I tried to purchase it on the mobile-app-store, but it informed me the app was to large to download over the data service.

so - with my macbook, I connected the 3G modem, and channeled the connection through Airport on the macbook to broadcast a wireless network with the connection from the 3G modem.

my iPhone recieved full 4 mbit/s connection (according to the macbook), but the app simply diddnt download, it asked me to use iTunes because of some error contacting the itunes server.

of course I tried rebooting the phone etc etc etc.

Now - iTunes on the macbook decided to download the app when I logged into my account. and so - as you know, a purchaser gets 1 download, which means the phone tells me iTunes already got the game, and I have to connect via USB to get it.

However, iTunes on my macbook (which is not the parent itunes to my phone) tells me I will loose all my apps on my iphone from the other computer if I sync to get Sim City.

what to dooooooo?

Pretty please, there must be something to do - kids are dying to play

thank you for reading.

Ooops just read your mac isn't the parent - so deleted post. Sorry.

Quick answer - find a MacDonalds or other free wifi zone and use the App Store on the iphone there. You will then be able to download the app to the phone.

well since its been purchased, you can redownload it onto your iPhone free of charge in the mobile app store. But as you said, its too big to be downloaded over the cell network, so i would suggest going to a local fast food restaurant with free wi-fi and redownloading it (for free) there.
