Just purchased an old school iMac CRT (G3 I believe) with 333MHz, 256 RAM, 30GB, and the tray-loading CD-ROM. It is running OS X 10.3.9 and I do not have ANY information about the previous owner of the computer.

Worse yet, I;ve searched all online and can only find people saying that I need the OS X disc to reboot and start from fresh. That would be great... but this iMac CRT only came with the PC, Keyboard, and Mouse.

Any suggestions??? I only paid $40... so if no one has any good ideas in the next day or two I will just take it back. Thanks in advance for the help and advice. I am fairly weak when it comes to Mac products, specifically the OS X system....I know NOTHING about. CHEERS:cool:

if you can get into the system, it's possible to add yourself as a new admin, and delete the old owner. change the name of the machine, and that should just about do it.

if you can't get into osx (say, it's password protected) you can get any panther (10.3) install disk, and use it to reset the password. borrow someone else's disk and try it, or get it off of ebay or craigslist. there's a 3rd party reseller in tulsa (megamacs.com) where you can buy either the imac system install disks or 10.3 install disks at a discount.

Thanks for the help man. I am really interested now in getting another imac CRT, specifically a slot-load DVD one that has firewire ports... is this megamacs place here in Tulsa a good source for that??? Any suggestions about any local shops in OKC area too that might carry something like this? Thanks Clyde

Update... Got rid of the iMac CRT... really did like it though. Thinking about getting maybe something a little more versatile in today's world... LOL I would like a new Imac but I really think the eMac might be a better option with the superdrive... too many choices now that I have megamacs.com at my local disposal. Thanks to all who inputted.
