purchasing additional iCloud storage

so we have 5GB free, but does that get applied to the total purchase of say 20GB or 500GB of data that is offered by Apple?

a total of 25GB or will you only get essentially 15GB?

I haven't found anything that clearly answers your question but a strict reading of Storage Pricing implies that you purchase 15GB additional when you purchase the 20GB plan.

thanks. yeah i kind of figured, i went for the 20GB upgrade and looks like it purchased 15GB on top of the 5GB free.
I can see both sides where i may be confusing and it sort of is, yes apple gives you 5GB but some may assume (like i did) that will always be there and never be a charge, so when you pay for 20GB you should in fact receive that + 5GB free.

its not a huge deal for 99cents a month but yeah it isnt clear.
