I’m a non-power user…web meetings, web browsing, excel… My company is offering me 14inch M1 Max w 32gpu & 64ram or 16inch 24gpu w 32ram. I can get the 14 sooner and prefer this size, but less heat, quiet (less fan), and battery are important to me. If I'm not a power user, will the 14 run cool and batter last long, or will the beefy processor run hot and drain the battery? Can folks please provide input on this decision between these two MacBooks.

If I'm reading this correctly you are choosing b/w two M1 MacBook Pro machines. For what you are doing the M1 Max is definitely overkill and frankly will perform in someways more poorly than a machine with the M1 Pro. The Max uses more power and therefore battery.

But beggars can't be choosers and these are two awesome machines. I'd choose simply based on form factor and battery. Do you want a smaller, lighter device or a bigger screen w/ longer battery life. There is no wrong choice here. And I don't think either is going to bug you re: heat or fan noise. FWIW - I love my 14" MBP M1.

Sounds like the 14" M1 Pro is perfect for you, has more than enough horses for what you are doing with a load to spare.
