Pure Android or Latest/Greatest iPhone?

For those who own the iPhone X and the Pixel 2 XL, which device do you like better? Which device is your daily driver? And would you upgrade to the Pixel 3 or the iPhone 2018?

If you had to recommend either device to someone, would you try to snag either of them within the next month or so? Or is it better to wait until the fall to see what the future holds and pick up one of these two at a cheaper price point?

Are there any good pure Android phones I should look at besides a Pixel 2 XL? No Pixel/Pixel 2 since I rather have a larger screen.

You want pure android, Only two phones I would buy are iPhones or the Samsung phones. Not the biggest fan of the Pixel As I would probably even go towards a LG v30 before a Pixel.

The X is a great solid phone and I like the Apple Watch as well. I would probably wait I think as Apple is good but all these devices do the same thing and the price they want is out a bit of a stretch. I am curious to see what they do for 2018.

Right now I go with something from the S9 series. I tried to go back to Apple and I continue with my iPad but it isn't a point to get wrapped up in aPple eco system.

I've been using both ecosystems since iOS 2.1 and Android 2.1.

My phone since Sep 2016 has been the iPhone 7 and just in the last few weeks I purchased a mint secondhand Pixel XL (2016) for a great price ($195) to give Oreo a try, and oh man... It just feels way better than iOS 11, despite the on paper speed of the A10 vs the Snapdragon 821 I can't tell any difference, if anything Android actually feels smoother than iOS 11 does, though 11.3 has helped compared to earlier versions.

Haven't used the X or 2XL but from a software point I am very much enjoying stock Android right now so I can say that.

The issue is the hardware can only be as good as the software running on it. You could have the best hardware in the world but if the software doesn't keep pace with it, then why bother. Sure, iOS 12 might help out on that front if they can get their act together and drill down on bugs and software quality. But right now I'd pick Oreo over iOS 11.

Hardware wise I'd take the iPhone X, but if I had to choose between the two I'd go with a 2XL at the moment. Just my own opinion.

Given the iPhone X hardware is rumored to get 4gb RAM and the Pixel 3 could have 6gb RAM, which older device would will not notice the difference in RAM? The iPhone X?

I would get the V30 only if LG did a bogo deal directly for like $500 or something so I can flip the second one for cash.

Having had the Pixel 2 XL for just over a week I would say that it's a very underrated phone compared with the X and even the S9 which promotes a lot of specs and features in adverts.

Despite not having advanced Face ID, it has face unlock that works pretty well. Personally, the finger print reader is quicker as it doesn't require me to wake the phone up. I just put my finger on it and the unlocks the phone without needing to swipe.

While it only has one rear facing camera, the photos are brilliant. So far I haven't had to edit or apply filters to any of my photos.

The front facing stereo speakers are loud and clear too. Yes. I do use the amazing voice assist on a daily basis.

Last but not least, the speed is unrivalled. Even the iPhone X feels a bit laggy and slow after you have used the Pixel.

As for the iPhone X. It's gorgeous but far too expensive for what it does.

IMO the Pixel 2 XL is probably the most iPhone like Android phone on the market. The OS experience is simplified - what you see is what you get. Settings are shallow and it excels at the things that matter most e.g photos quality, registering all interactions with the screen, speed and good battery life. It's a very different experience from my Samsung S6+ Edge.

If you don't desperately need a new phone wait for the OnePlus 6, iPhone XS and Pixel 3. However if you find an X or 2 XL at a hard-to-refuse price then go for it.

Problem is that the X is still at least $750 on Swappa. Pixel 2 XL has been about $600 recently. I am interested in the Pixel 3 and iPhone X 2018 as well. My carrier typically does a Pixel deal where you can get half the phone covered via a prepaid master card and all you have to do is add a line temporarily for two months. They make change it to bill credits to prevent line cancellations. In that case, I would just simply trade my 8+ in for the most $ rather than sell it for a few $ more and have to take the time to ship it and deal with people.

As a seller, I have had people not read listings and contact PayPal to just waste time since PayPal ruled in my favor. Other times, people tried to make BS excuses to return items and send it to the wrong address because they cannot read an address properly.

Well, my family plan is covered by someone else. The details, for the Pixel 2/2XL, is $325 back after 6-8 weeks on the prepaid MC. Gotta add a line for $25 a month and keep the line active for up to two months. The other half would be paid off via CC. You would be charged for the entire phone up front via Google. You can trade in a phone, but they must inspect it and give a CC refund after it's approved. That's where my 8+ would come. If the prices go up to $700, I could in theory trade my 8+ in for $350-$400 and have T-Mobile cover the remaining balance through the $350 reimbursement if they keep the same promo again this year. If they do bill credits, I am out since I do not want to sign a "two year contract" and be forced to keep a line active at $25 a month for 24 months.

I would rather just trade in the iPhone 8+ for $300-$450 range and get that off the price of the newest iPhone X or get the 2017 X completely free on a 2 year contract via bill payments.
