Push E-Mail Notifications

I have an ipod touch that I have set up to work with my work e-mail on an exchange server. Everything works fine except for one issue. If I receive say 5 emails I can see the notification on my phone with a #5 on the mail button. If I go right to my computer at work and look at the e-mails before I even touch the itouch, shouldn't the notification on the phone go away? I know when I had a Blackberry that is exactly how it would work.

Is the functionality and different with the iphone? Thanks for your input...I am eagerly awaiting the new version of the iphone. I hate my Blackberry!

That's what I would have figured - that the Emails that you checked would be marked as 'Read' on all other devices hooked up to the Exchange server.

Maybe you're not giving it enough time to check if the messages were read on the Touch? Ex. You checked the messages on your Mac and within 20 secs you checked your Touch. Perhaps, it may take 3 or 5 mins to for the Touch to check the servers??

I know that when I read a message from the exchange server on the itouch it instantaneously marks it as "read" on my computer. It just doesn't seem to work the other way!
 
No it doesn't, however it will update with the read/unread status when another message is pushed to your device or when opening the mail application and doing a sync (obviously)
 
It's a PUSH service, not a PULL service. It will only do one way traffic. From cloud to device. It will update when you manually go to the device. IMAP from google does it both ways. However it's not instantly since it checks in 15 minutes intervals.

So does that mean that Blackberry is more than PUSH? Thanks, I never really thought of it of it as PUSH and PULL
