can AOL mail be set to push?

Fetch new data : Set to push at what intervals you want.

Fetch is not push. There are no intervals with push. Email is pushed as it arrives.

select where it says 'fetch new data'

turn 'push' on

I have mine set for every 30 minutes.

Their is no option for push for aol. Just wondering is it possible to do it with Microsoft exchange like gmail?

Or should I just get gmail?

Keep in mind aol doesn't allow forwarding either. So if u switch you'll have to check ur aol often too....

Gmail generally has the most mail features for the best price (free). However, many people don't like google because of privacy issues. iCloud probably comes in at a close second in terms of power and features, but the web mail interface is relatively slow and clunky. What privacy issues are their with gmail?

Its not a big deal for me to move emails as I can just change my subscriptions over to the new address.

I was thinking of using iCloud but it doesn't implement push very well (at least when I tried it).

Basically, google tracks everything that you do (well, they try to). There's a reason why their services are free.

When did iCloud push not work well for you? It had lots of problems in the beginning, but it's gotten a lot better. While iCloud reliability may not be as good as gmail's, it's not bad, either (I just did a quick test, and got a message pushed in 15-20 seconds).

iCloud is fine for push when it comes to receiving emails but it doesn't update when I look at my emails on my computer. So say if I get three mails in an evening and read them on the computer when I come to my iphone later it hasn't pushed to mark them as read and still says I have 3 unread emails in in the app notifications...

iCloud updates my iPhone, iPad and Mac almost immediately after I read an email.

It doesn't for me. If I read emails on the iCloud website it never updates the emails in the iPhone mail app unless I manually open it.

Have I set something up wrong?

i had mobileme and push worked great. as soon as i upgraded to icloud push stopped working all together. I switched back to using gmail as icloud just isn't reliable. You're not alone...there are plenty of threads out there about push not working on icloud.

so it should push when an email has been read too? and not just when you have been sent an email?

correct. for example....

i was looking at a new email on my iphone 4 and immediately turned on my ipad to see the new email sitting there. Tapped the new email and within 1-5 seconds was "read" on the ipad. I then deleted the email and it was the same thing.

The main problem I had was actually getting the emails sent to my phone. I had push enabled and would go all day without my phone dinging. I'd check the app manually then all the sudden you'd have 10 emails built up bc they didn't push.

Who knows, it could be fixed now but I already switched back to gmail so oh well.

Hmm doesn't seem ideal!

I dont really fancy gmail so will probably just stick with aol for now and use fetch as I have been doing (unless I find a better alternative).

Out of curiosity ij ust tried a gmail account with exchange on the iPhone and push works seamlessly in e.g. Marks you emails as read as soon as you read them on your computer.

Looks like gmail is the way to go...
