I'm trying to get push mail to work. I understand that MobileMe enables this and that other email providers like Yahoo! allow push mail also.

What about people who use their own domain names in their email addresses? I'm with 1and1 and heard that it was possible to set up push mail through them.

Does anybody know how it's done?

i think 1AND1 use POP3, not sure if they do.. call them up and ask for the IMAP settings and if they do offer push then the messages will come as they arrive... if they do offer it.. thats the question..

Hi I use 1and1 also for my personal domain, I believe you can upgrade it to an exchange server to get push support.

But I currently use 1and1 imap settings, which im happy with ive been trying out mobile me, using 1and1 outgoing server and setting up a foward mailbox from 1and1, this works quite well but im not sure im gonna pay fo mobile me yet, as im not impressed with the rules usage with mobile me. (moving email do different folders ect doesnt seem to update on web client)

1and1 imap seems very good/organised compared with mobileme.

Heres the settings:

Incoming host name: imap.1and1.co.uk

username: email address

password: is webmail password

Outgoing server: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk

1and1 offers push email services for the Exchange email service.

It seems to be cheaper than other Exchange providers, but from what I've heard (just from some Exchange host research) they do have their fair share of downtime.

My company actually just started our Exchange hosting service with Hostway and they offered us a one month free trial (we have about 20 mailboxes) so we're currently trying them out.

Thanks for the input guys.

So if I use IMAP, my e-mail badge will update on the iPhone once I get a new email? ... or does it still have to pull down that notification every 15 minutes (the most frequent refresh that iPhone allows)?
