Push not working for email?

If I actually go into the mail app, it will download new mails from iCloud... but they won't push to my phone ( I was trying to test out the notifications on the lock screen but can't get any mails I send to myself from a different addy to come through until I open the mail app!)

Is this an iOS5 problem or iCloud??
