I currently only use a single iPhone, so I have no experience with this. But I do plan on owning an iPad at some point too and started thinking about this today. How will push notifications be handled on the applications that I will undoubtedly have on both devices? I assume they will be able to show up on both, but I can also see how that could be slightly annoying. Any thoughts?

i have mobileme push to my iphone and imac along with my mbp with no problems. so it should work just fine.
I guess no one understands what the OP is talking about?
If you have push notifications turned on for the same app installed on two devices, does a PN pop up on both devices? When you adress it on one device, does it clear the notification on the other? I doubt it, but then again notifications on the iPhone aren't saved anyways so technically a missed notification is cleared when you unlock the device.

It depends on the app. News apps will usually pop up at the same time. My wife and I both have iPhones and share apps. The push is connected to your specific device ID. In addition, most apps let you customize your push alerts. Basically the company's push server sees them as two different accounts. For instance, my Sportacular app could push football scores only and hers could push baseball only, or whatever. There isn't any overlap. They register as separate devices with their own settings. No worries!
How do people seriously not get this?
Suppose you are out using your iPhone and you get a few push alerts. You've already looked at them, but when you get home the same alerts you've checked and dismissed in previous hours are still waiting for you on the iPad. Hence, how they could be a little annoying.
Honestly, the whole push notification system needs a rework. There needs to be some kind of notification manager to show all your notifications on one screen.
My guess this syncing of notifications will not be implemented at launch if ever. There would have to be settings for each app. Sometimes you would want the notification to show on both devices other times not. What if you have 2 iPhones on your ATT account? Which syncs with the iPad? 1 phone? both? all 3 devices?
Hmmm...let me think. Ever used MobileMe? Or even synced your iPhone calendar? I get a push alert on my iPhone that I have a test today. I get back from class on my mac and it says "You have a test today" and I have to dismiss it. Not a big deal. I feel like iPad apps and iPhone apps will settle into their own spaces. For instance, you probably won't be running sportacular getting alerts at the same time on your iPad and iPhone. You'll probably choose the iPhone, as with the iPad you're more likely to be at home watching the games anyway. If you wanted a certain push app on your iPad, you could just disable notifications on that device? Unless you're crazy and have more than 10 apps that regularly send you push alerts, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just disable the ones on your iPad that you don't see the use for--like to-do apps. You're more likely to have your iPhone on you than iPad at any given moment. Just enable push for to-do on iPhone and not on iPad, but still install the app on iPad to manage it.
Let's take this one step further. Apple has push alerts for email. When I get mail on my iPhone, the badge on my mac goes away. Same thing if I check mail on my mac, the iPhone badge goes away. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard for Apple to implement a two-way system. But I don't really see a huge need for it.

Yah the entire notification system needs work. They should do a notification stream sorta like Facebook does. Badge an icon by the clock or something that when you touch it slides up all your notifications. It should go across all mac platforms too. So if all of them have a universal notification system if you've "read" or "checked" those notification the "badge" or number of notifications will universally be set to "read" on all device. I wouldn't even care if they made it some mobile me feature.
