Push notifications for Remember The Milk

Remember The Milk update is out and it now has push notifications for task reminders! Yay! I know some people don't like that fact that although the app is free, you have to have a pro subscription to RTM @ $25/yr, but I love the service and think it's well worth the subscription price for how useful it is for me. I'm so much more productive since discovering RTM; I've tried other alternative services and apps: Toodledo, Pocket Informant, OmniFocus, Things, Reqall have all failed to give me the flexibility and/or the stability and seamless syncing that I get with RTM. Love it.

Works well. Definitely a push application I've been waiting for. Finally! I can stop getting annoying text reminders.

I do wish there was a sound to accompany the reminder.
 
Googla calendar will txt you reminders for calendar events. For free. Create a tasks calendar, set the reminders to come 5, 10 minutes whatever before it's due, and you're set.

This may work well for basic tasks, but for a fully fledged GTD system it's just not scalable. I've got >30 different tags for tasks (areas, contexts, projects, locations etc.), which wouldn't really work with google. Plus the fact that it costs to receve these SMSs in the UK. And the locations/nearby feature of RTM is very useful and there's no alternative with Google tasks/calendar.

That pertains to adding functionality to the app via code. This is just a subscription based service that offers an app. Just like the XM/Sirius app and many others. Perfectly OK and has been happening since the store opened up.
 
It doesnt tell you anywhere in the description that there is a charge. It's kind of misleading

You could also use Google Mobile Sync to have google calander sync over to your iPhone with push. This also lets Calander.app to send you alerts which is free!

misleading how? it's a FREE app... they're not getting anything out of you, and when you find out there's a charge, you can just delete that app that you didn't pay anything for

I don't know why I care, I bought the subscription a while back and never use it because I don't like how the site works. But it says in the very first line of the description that the app is free with a Pro account and then gives you a link to read more about the Pro account within by the third line. Really quite hard to miss.

As I understand it, even free apps must be self-contained. That is, you are not allowed to put time limits on them (have you ever seen a time limited game?)

This seems to be an exception, because I don't see any other way they could do it prior to 3.0. Now they could perhaps use in-app purchasing for the subscription.

Yes, the app will always be free, but they can still charge for the service.

Look at AT&T GPS app, Sirius XM app, and many others. The app is free but the service costs money. No rules broken with the app store.
