Push Notifications not working over Wifi

My household has two iPhone 3G that do not receive push notifications. We have very poor AT&T coverage at home and rely on wifi for data. When I am in an area where I am connected to the AT&T network the notifications work fine.

Since this is happening with two phones I am thinking it is a network issue. My setup at home is:

Airport Extreme (bridged) ---> Motorola Vonage Router ---> Cable Modem

Anyone have a similar setup?

Also, any idea what ports do the apple push notification system uses? I am wondering if I need to open these ports on my router. Any other suggestions will be appreciated

Is 3G/2G shut off during standby too?

I am not getting my emails pushed either, though the problem is not wi-fi. It doesn't work (at least not the way I think it should) no matter what network I'm using.

I can get my email, but it seems to only check when I activate the phone and tap the email button. From what I understand, that is not really pushing email, but fetching. Is that right?

By the way, I have a Yahoo!/Att mail account.

Forgive me, it's my first iphone and I'm learning how to use it still. Related but different question, can anyone suggest a good web resource on using / understanding the iphone?

No this is happening when the phones are awake. I am aware that the notifications do not work when the phone is sleeping. The phone is connected to wifi, surfs the web fine, get my email, etc.

Need port numbers

I too am having a similar issue with my iPod touch 2g 3.0. I am not receiving any notifactions on my home network. But when I am on another network i am. I am using a linksys wrtp54g router. What ports should I unblock?

I'm having the same problem. IM+'s Push Notifications work fine on other WiFi networks and on 3G but not on my home network

Have contacted IM+; haven't heard back from them yet. Will post an answer here if they have any ideas.

same problem here. push notifications not working while using home wifi. beejive and weather alerts are my push apps.

once i switch from wifi to 3g...all my push notifications appear all at once

I found a solution to this at: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2055940

You change the DNS setting on your WiFi connection to 194.150.168.168 and it works. I'm not sure what affect this has on browsing speed. Plus someone mentioned on the above forum that the DNS you specify could see your traffic.

But at least we know now the problem can be resolved. We just need to find out if it's a bug with push notifications or with our WiFi configurations. Anyone?
