Push now supported in Mail.app

Push Email notification now appears to be supported for MobileMe in Mail.app via the IDLE command.

To receive push notifications ensure that "Use IDLE command if the server supports it" is enabled in Mail.app -> Preferences -> Accounts -> MobileMe.

I second that assessment. Gets the mail there and updates my mac (might take a few secs or a minute) when I read/delete it. I have noticed lately that mobileme wasnt pushing to my iphone lately, anyone else get this? (seems to be fixed now though)

I sent some test emails from my job and 3 out of the 4 emails were actually pushed to Mail. Did not click Get Mail and it was not happening every 15 minutes. I sent test emails only a couple minutes apart. The email that didn't come through eventually did, but that is most likely mobile me screwing up since it didn't come through even when clicking Get Mail

If I send email to myself from my mobile me address it shows up nearly instantly in Mail. I seem remember having to click Get Mail even if I sent something to myself.

Yes, the idle command has worked in Mail.app since 10.5.1 or maybe before. Not with MobileMe obviously, but definitely with Mail.app and IMAP IDLE.

Do you know if MobileMe is actually using IDLE? The checkmark your referring to, is set by default on a standard IMAP account. At least it was checked by default the few times I have setup Mail.app in Leopard.

I cannot, because I do not have a MobileMe account, but unless there is documentation stating it uses the IDLE command, the next step would be to do some packet sniffing I would imagine.

Cool. I checked this sometime last week, and it was not there. In fact, it was not showing many of those options. I posted it to another thread, possibly in another forum. I will have to see what was advertised previously. Thanks for the info!

Yes, indeed it has. I perhaps should have made it clearer that I was referring to the fact that MobileMe now supported it. Sorry about that.

Is this true for if the screen saver is running too? It seems to work for me, but if it sits idle and the screen saver comes on, then it doesn't work anymore. I need to manually check to get it back going again.

Are you referring to the iPhone when you say Mac? Its pretty much a given that any push software or any software will not function if its powered down. (powered down == powered off)

ragecage: if your screensaver is coming on, and then your machine is going to sleep, then yes, if your referring to the screensaver only, I do not believe that is the case, I could be wrong though, I do not remember that ever happening with my PB or my current MBP. You might look at your settings for sleeping.

I have the same problem. It's the same when you delete messages, they stay on the iPhone.
