I aquired two PowerMac G4 MDD recently:

1.25 DP FW800 PowerMac G4 - (does not post or boot) Model 1914
1.25 Single FW400 PowerMac G4 - MDD 2003 Model (does work and boot) Model 1914C

Since I don't know what's wrong with the DP 1.25 G4 - could I put the 1.25 DP card in the FW400 2003 machine? Is it an easy swap or does it involve tweaking with resistors? I'll be using the FW800 machine as a parts machine. I want to take advantage of the DP. If I can't then I'll focus on getting the FW800 machine up and running.

No reason you shouldn't to my knowledge, AFAIK they're the same motherboard design. The only tweaking necessary would be to change the FSB speed else the bus underclock your card, but an MDD 2003 should be 167MHz already. Also, try not to post the same topic twice, this isn't Facebook.

I actually did this, although I don't know the specific origin of the Dual 1.25 Ghz card, as I got it loose. Mine is also a 2003, and yeah, it's a worthwhile upgrade. You might want to also use the cpu cooler from the FW800, as my system does seem to run a little on the warm side, but that really has been the only issue I've run into.

Thanks everyone. I put the dual 1.25 card in my 2003 MDD and it didn’t like it. Seems the card was the culprit because it did the same thing on another MDD I have. Powers on but doesn’t boot. 10 seconds later the fan go on full blast. I tried reseating the card, taking out all peripherals - leaving just the CPU - still the same. I eventually settled on the single 1.25 card in its original 2003 case and motherboard. The only thing wrong on that is the sound have intermittent issues. I can live with that by plugging in external speakers. I did replace the internal speaker because the original one sounded blown out and garbled.

As for the FW800, I narrowed it down. The motherboard and cpu card is fried. Now I’ve been taking all the good parts and putting it into the working machine. The single CPU is a bit slow but it’ll hold until I find a good dual 1.25 or higher.

I’m using this machine to run my older software and games. Such a trip down memory lane. Lol ?

I definitely wasn't the only one who tried that particular trick, as the card I got was acquired through someone I met here, who bought it on their local ebay along with another similar cpu card, if I remember right. I do recall being the only one who managed to get a working upgrade, so maybe I was really lucky.
