As some of you may be aware, google purchased SageTV which has been my PVR for the past few years. Nobody knows the future of SageTV, so I am exploring other options. Is their any way to use apple tv to record cable tv? Maybe via jailbreaking? Thanks,

Not that I am aware of. The Apple TV is a terrific, low power and highly capable media player. But, its a bit on the low powered side for use as a media capture device. A Mac Mini is much closer to what you are looking for and can easily be expanded to provide PVR functions.

I'm an old Sage TV user from the version 3\4\5 days. I had a Linux server running quad tuners and serving multiple Windows computers and extenders. I have to tell you, I'm so glad to have left that piss-poor piece of software behind its not even funny. I switched to Windows Media Center during the Vista days and kept using it through Windows 7. I just picked up an Apple TV, a separate Bluray players and retired the HTPC. Honestly, there's not been one day when I've looked back and genuinely missed any of the features the HTPC provided. Was it more capable? Sure. Was it more hassle? 10 x more problems and complications. Heck, my love life has improved now that my wife can use the TV.

As always, ymmv.

Still using SageTV 6 on a dedicated Win7 DVR with several ATSC HD tuners. Works flawlessly. Will have to see what Google does with it.

I suspect that Google will do something smart. Back when I was using it, Sage was a decent system but I left when they kept pushing releases with new bugs... and not fixing the old bugs. It got pretty nuts for a while. If that was fixed, I'm sure it would be a great product. It was pretty robust back in the day so with some QC work from Google's budget I'm sure it would be lovely.

My setup is EyeTv to record programs onto my iMac, the software that comes with the EyeTV will export directly to iTunes so it will be right there to play through the AppleTV about 30 min after the show ends.

This would be the one to use
